The Honorable René Peña is a 12-year veteran as a criminal prosecutor for the State of Texas District Attorney's Office. He has extensive experience mapping, tracking and attributing complex financial, human trafficking, and other nefarious transactions concerning U.S. and international threat actors. Combined with his private sector business experience Mr. Peña brings a powerful set of tools and approaches to the cyber enterprise risk management sector. His extensive South Texas border experience has already become invaluable to Axon as it executes contracts concerning the country's Strategic Border Initiative. He has served at the pleasure of Governor Perry and Governor Abbott in several federal, state, and local inter-agency task forces and committees including: the Attorney General's Human Trafficking Prevention Task Force, chair of the Texas Violence Gang Task Force, president and chairman of the Texas District & County Attorneys Association, founder and president of the Children's Alliance of South Texas, the Timothy Cole Exoneration Review Committee in 2015, and as Executive Director of the Texas Special Prosecution Unit.
In 2010, he worked with the Texas Legislature and the Governor to create the Texas Border Prosecution Unit (BPU), serving as Chairman. This initiative covered 17 jurisdictions and 48 counties from El Paso to Brownsville, successfully fighting human trafficking, cartels, and gang violence.
René serves as the President of the Children's Alliance of South Texas, and serves on the boards of numerous community organizations.
A native of South Texas, Rene received an Associate of Applied Science in Public Administration from San Antonio College, a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas and his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston, Texas. He is currently working a 24- month program to achieve the National Association of Corporate Director's esteemed Full Board Member status. The highest credential achieved by Board Directors.
